【October 4th】PRI in Person 2023 Official Side Event～Disclosure and sustainability standards in forest-risk commodity investment: A review of TNFD, NDPE and Indonesia’s green taxonomy

Event Description

Products that use raw materials that lead to deforestation in tropical forests, such as palm oil, cattle, chocolate, paper pulp, and lumber, are called “deforestation risk products” or “forest risk products”.
The use of these products can lead to deforestation and forest degradation in the tropical regions where they are produced, with significant impacts on forests, biodiversity, and local communities.
To address these issues, NDPE (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation) policies are being adopted by financial institutions as well as businesses that handle these risk products.
This event will provide an overview of NDPE policies and an assessment of their implementation.

Focusing particularly on Indonesia, where forest-risk products continue to rely on deforestation, the event will also report on sustainable finance policies promoted by the Indonesian government and their impact on foreign investors.

In addition, we will provide an overview and analysis of the recently released final version of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and report on the divergence between the TNFD and international standards including the Global Biodiversity Framework.

10/4（水）PRI in person 2023公式サイドイベント「森林破壊リスク産品セクターへの投資の情報開示と持続可能性基準：TNFDとNDPE方針、インドネシア版タクソノミーの評価」

イベント内容

パーム油や畜牛、チョコレート、紙パルプや木材など、熱帯林における森林破壊につながる原料を使う製品は「森林破壊リスク産品」や「森林リスク産品」と呼ばれます。これらの産品を利用することは、生産地である熱帯地域の森林減少や森林劣化を引き起こし、森林や生物多様性、地域コミュニティに大きな影響を与える可能性があります。これらの問題に対処するためにNDPE（森林減少禁止、泥炭地開発禁止、搾取禁止）方針の採用が、リスク産品を扱う事業者だけでなく、金融機関でも進められています。

本イベントでは、NDPE方針の概要を解説するとともに、その実施状況の評価を報告します。

特に森林破壊が依然として止まらないインドネシアに焦点を当て、現地政府が推進するサステナブル・ファイナンスやインドネシア版タクソノミー改訂の評価、海外投資家への影響についての報告も行います。

加えて、最近発表された自然関連財務情報開示タスクフォース（TNFD）の最終版の概要と分析結果を解説し、TNFDと他の森林リスク産品への金融セクターの関与のための国際的な基準やアカウンタビリティの仕組みとの乖離について報告します。
